And… We’re Back! | June 14, 2011

by Joe

SPOILERS AHEAD! Please watch the scene, first! :D

Well, I couldn’t do it this time! Sorry, everyone, my programming skills just aren’t there yet :D I won’t give up, though! I have a ton of stuff to learn and I promise that game-like scenes will eventually make their way into the comic :D

I’ve had quite a week! Our baby experienced his first illness (caught a little stomach bug, says the doctor) and that took a big toll on my wife and I. I can deal with a crying baby, but a baby crying seemingly 24/7 takes another level of endurance. He’s feeling better now, though, so we’re thankful for that! :D

We also had to deal with a ton of immigration stuff, which was an incredible hassle. Everything has finally been done and a huge weight has been lifted from my family’s shoulders. Here’s a little tip: If you’re going to have a baby, do it in your home country ;)

On top of all that, coding for The Pocalypse had me tearing my hair out! Although I wasn’t successful for this scene, I did learn a lot and an interactive is a definite possibility. Just not right now :D I couldn’t wait anymore, since I felt like I hadn’t updated in forever, so instead of posting an incomplete and broken interactive scene, I decided to post a good ol’ classic scene :D

Enjoy Scene 5 – “No More Sunlight”!

Please continue to vote! :D Bug’s sketch is still the incentive! Thank you for voting everyday!

You can follow The Pocalypse on Facebook (check out our paper doll pictures! Send me your own pics, too!), Twitter and RSS, too!

Don’t feel bad! Just keep learning at your own pace. And there’s nothing wrong with a “classic scene” from The Pocalypse, which is already quite unique as webcomics go!

Honestly, I think sticking to ‘classic’ stuff until you are sure of your skills is the way to go. I liked the comic when classic was all we had, and personally I think that the increased interactivity without it affecting the results detracts from the experience. It changes it from a really good comic to a total railroad and therefore crappy RPG.

I think one day you will be ready to create a full on RPG based on the comic, with meaningful choices and its own plot that people will care about, but please wait till you are ready to bring the full force of a true RPG to the table, not a tiny taste that will just leave everyone disappointed that it wasn’t the real thing.

Anyway, I don’t mind if you don’t make a game scene for 3 years.

My personal opinion on the matter is that you should wait until you are 100% capable as you said.

Trust me, me and the rest of your fans have plenty of patience.

I mean, I made a chainmaille vest that took three months for pete’s sake!

This was nice :) Thank you Joe… And btw. don’t be impatient! Just continue posting classic scenes until youre 100% sure you’ve got the skills to program intractive scenes, normal scenes are also awesome, so we wont be damaged by waiting for the interactive ones :P

Very good comic, learned about it from the game. But the scenes are a bit short. :/

Joe, didn`t you make an interactive scene a while back? When Andrius was training Joe? I want to go play that again, could you tell me which update that was? ^^
Also, I`m completely fine with you not being ready to make a game-like comic. Just continue practicing and you`ll get there ;)

Hurray! I’ve been checking this website almost every hour :D! Also, forgot to say “good luck” about the baby. I’m sure it’ll all turn out a-okay. Also, I want to mention that you are the inspiration that got me into Flash and Pixel Art :P. Mind E-Mailing me some tips at navyfield_ftw@hotmail.com? Thanks :D

Sorry for Double-Post thing, but I just read Shuggabawlz post, and I think you could have like a “Play in Classic” and a “Play with Controls” options or something. Seemed worth mentioning

I was suprised how I stood up when the elder ran across the room. Also, I realise that I didn’t really mind this late comic. I’m just glad that I got to see it! Any ways, I can’t wait for the next scene, and (hopefully) use the keys to find the elder and get freaked out when he pops out at me!

A castle is built one brick at a time… You just need to keep trying and the pile will form the shape you seek!
