PHP Games! Lemme Know! 07/28/2011

by Joe

Have you played browser games like Die2Nite and PokeFarm? You may have seen their ads right here on this site!

If you have played these games, or similar games, then you know what I’m talking about when I say PHP game. I’m not sure what their official genre label is, but I’m looking for games that are similar. Have you played any good browser-based games that play like Die2Nite and/or PokeFarm? Games that use PHP, require registration, and access databases. Please, let me know! :D

Thank you for voting for the blockhead’s name! Cubert is currently in the lead and I’ll leave voting open for one more day. So, please vote! You vote will only be counted if you vote in the forums!

Enjoy Scene 23 – “New Colonists”!

Please continue to vote! :D Bug’s sketch is still the incentive! Thank you for voting everyday!

You can follow The Pocalypse on Facebook, Twitter and RSS, too!

Give Scrufflebeck a good home by buying a Scrufflebeck keychain! They’re now available for CDN$10 in the store :D Thanks for your support!

Uh win?

Joshua on July 28, 2011 at 1:31 pm

Well things seem good in the colony i wonder what’s going to happen with Joe and the elder vampire…guess i’ll have to wait to see

John on July 28, 2011 at 1:34 pm

http://www.ogame.com is a good one. Along with AstroEmpires.
Most of them I stop playing because they get boring after awhile.
Why? you thinking of making a Pocalypse based one?

Silverware on July 28, 2011 at 1:39 pm

Whoops that’s http://www.Ogame.org

Silverware on July 28, 2011 at 1:40 pm

thx for checking out die2nite

writingbook on July 28, 2011 at 1:52 pm

Hmmm i sense a very good mixture of the recent events brewing. All elements are in place ¬¬ Time for the Elders to make their move! i think? xD

Luio on July 28, 2011 at 1:57 pm

i believe the proper name is “pbbg” (persistent browser-based game)
and i play at http://www.zombiepandemic.com/ every day

leaderofstars on July 28, 2011 at 2:07 pm

I really have to thank you for packing so much into one comic. There are quite a few weboomics out there that would take a week to deliver as much as you do in one.

It really feels like the calm before the storm. Too many unknown and unstable elements being brought into the safe area at once.

Scott and Bernie are both in emotional and unpredictable places right now.

Doc and Dominik are two very dangerous elements and loyal to their own interest, nevermind that Dominik can MindF**k everyone in a half mile radius from the comfort of his room.

And I’m sure next comic will have us dealing with Rosa who is an unknown strain of something right now. (Should be a 3rd generation Zompire but doesn’t show same effects as either Cross or Andurus). Probably most dangerous of all is released InnerJoe only too eager to prove himself to everyone.

Raziel Star on July 28, 2011 at 2:08 pm

Fell kinda bad for Scott, not his fault his father became psycho and kept capturing people for the blood farm. I just think that Bernie should lighten up on hi a bit, since like he said he did end up saving their lives.

Laserhead on July 28, 2011 at 2:12 pm

Okay then.

Browser based game?

Mostly text and some images?

Improbable Island.

The best one I’ve ever come across, it’s in-depth, complex, continually updated, and batshit crazy.

The dude who runs it, Caveman Joe (what a coincidence!) is really approachable too.

Delta Pangaea on July 28, 2011 at 2:15 pm

Am I the only one who almost crapped their pants when they said annika was infected, even as a joke?

Corey Everett on July 28, 2011 at 2:36 pm

So for the first time, all the main characters are back in New Hammerston (except Greybane). Despite this chapter not ending on a cliffhanger, I feel just as anxious for the next update.

Zach on July 28, 2011 at 2:37 pm

OGame is a good browser game. I also like Kingdom of Loathing.

bobbaganoosh on July 28, 2011 at 3:00 pm

Ahh that was more like it, a change from the stress, tense, action packed twists and cliffhangers and down to a calm, relaxing short one :)

Lol, now get to the gore!

Professor on July 28, 2011 at 3:08 pm

A old one called “HellMoo” was a good one, it got shut down though a few years back.

Lukesf on July 28, 2011 at 3:41 pm

that soldier had me too when he said Annika was infected. i actually jumped back, nice work Joe!

YoYoDude on July 28, 2011 at 4:56 pm

Yeah I think we needed one like that, just a calming down type comic. And Joe, you really freaked the hell out of me when the soldier said Annika was infected….bloody hell…..

Jon on July 28, 2011 at 5:09 pm

Thank you for the game suggestions! The more, the merrier :D
@Silverware – Let’s just say that I’m writing something up and I want to do a little research :D
@Raziel Star – Thanks! Yeah, I’m glad that this format let’s me pack as much dialogue as I can into every scene!

Joe on July 28, 2011 at 6:46 pm

All I have to say is http://www.pardus.at
Although that’s most likly due to my obssesion of all things sci-fi

Noble 7 on July 28, 2011 at 7:28 pm

Pokefarm was pretty good, for awhile. I think it was alittle too slow for me, which is a problem I also had with most facebook games. There was another Pokemon styled one, which I’ve forgotten the name of, which was less beginner friendly (actully, so was Pokefarm untill you hatched your first egg, as you couldn’t access the forum till you had).
Pokefarm did have some nice features though. There would always be 4 random eggs in the lab, and there was always a ton in the shelter. If you looked hard enough, you could get rare’s or events. I know the craze for Sleeping Kolink’s led to a new stats being made ^^”

I can’t really talk about the normal PHP games much more, but there’s quite a few flashbased style ones on facebook. From my knowlage, they work simalar, although you’re more active for say, 10 minutes before you have to wait a day.
I always found that the cooldown time (the time before you can do something new) was Way too long on those things, and the only one I liked much was Ravenwood fair, as the recharge time on energy was pretty quick, and you could get a stack of stuff to turn into extra energy.

Anyway…. What are you up to Joe? I know you sometimes put up random things like this, but you’re up to something this time. Need help?

Squizzel on July 28, 2011 at 7:54 pm

With the new survivors in the colony, The story is coming to a nice wrap up. But what happened to greybane, did he just die amongst the story, we havent seen him in like 20 episodes. we have 3 stories running at once and one of them hasnt been seen in 20 episodes. Joe, i believe its time for a greybane episode. still great review i rate
4.5 stars

Leinahtan on July 28, 2011 at 10:36 pm

I gave Travian a whirl some months ago. It’s quite a cute game, because all the newbies think it’s just a 4X game like Starcraft – when in reality it’s very much a political game. A guy who can run an organisation or talk a mean game in diplomacy can punch way above his weight.

I gave it up eventually because I got tired of launching attacks in the middle of the night…

JakeS on July 28, 2011 at 10:36 pm

no i was wrong there are four stories, Greybane, Jess, Joe, Inside Joe, and Bernie. wait thats 5 stories. Joe has his work cut out for him

Leinahtan on July 28, 2011 at 10:38 pm

Bernie is finally back and we had Jess come in just one episode ago, I feel Inner Joe and Rosa will be coming now also so the gang will finally be together again, and knowing Inner Joe he’s gonna love the opportunity to go into the machine city and really fuck things up

SpiritOfAdventure on July 29, 2011 at 12:13 am

To Raziel Star Not to mention the fact that inner Joe is in control of joes body so yeah I think that next week is going to be one hell of a week.

eric on July 29, 2011 at 12:14 am

Joe and Rosa might not get accepted. Joe isn’t infected, but he’s not with Bernie or Jess. And definitely not Rosa because she is a vampire. Or someone might sort the problem out for them. I hope Joe doesn’t do crazy things.

Shade person on July 29, 2011 at 12:18 am

Zach-> Joe’s still not back, neither of them… Also Rosa…

NeoWarrior on July 29, 2011 at 1:09 am

Raziel Star has a point. With so many badass characters converging towards new Hammerston, thing will probably tend to get explosive. Besides, i guess when Joe manages to get a face-to-face with Inner Joe, half the city will probably get wrecked. One more thing: an idea for a filler scene: gather all Joes in one room and see what happens! (Sorry author Joe! X3 )

LucarioGuy1195 on July 29, 2011 at 1:32 am

Well all is well been watching this since it first came out!
What if Greybane manage to reach Joe somehow? WHAT IF INNER JOE DESTROY THE COLONY!!!

Well this is exciting :D waiting for the next one!

Frozenblood on July 29, 2011 at 1:53 am

Oh my god, when i heard annika was infected i craped my pants.
When i figured out it was a joke the crap flew back in.

George lutech on July 29, 2011 at 3:33 am

i ALMOST believed she was infeckted.
(yes its is)
(oh yes it-

heh on July 29, 2011 at 6:47 am

In case you’re looking for zombie survival games you should also take a look at Dead Frontier

It’s a browser based, 3D action MMO game, it’s pretty well done.

Keter on July 29, 2011 at 8:46 am

Zombie Trailer Park!
It’s a simple, fun and funny strategy game, you protect a trailer park against hordes of zombies, abominationsn, harpies and other critters, with rednecks with shovels or molotovs, and survivalists in pickup trucks

Geoff on July 29, 2011 at 11:02 am

I’ve seen a fair share of that sort of game, but most of them were incredibly boring. Browser based games never really hit me; they’re fairly easy to find though if you look up browser based MMO’s. I think this list would be a good start on what to look on;

Personally not my cup of tea, but to each their own.

Draekalovich on July 29, 2011 at 11:56 am

by far the best text based game i’ve played is The Kingdom of Loathing

p. observer on July 29, 2011 at 12:25 pm

I played Die2Nite. My high score is 9 nights. All the towns I have been, the villagers were assholes so I couldn’t survive longer XD

Marcela on July 29, 2011 at 1:12 pm

You need to explain the zombie virus better. Because something like this is impossible.

Pat on July 29, 2011 at 1:49 pm

hay all and joe were all awesome for watching this

spike on July 29, 2011 at 5:44 pm

@Pat-Yeah an actuall zombie virus would be IMPOSSIBLE in real life so it has to be a scientific mutation.
@The entire communtiy- Guys i think Greybane is Bernie and Jess’ Father. He was lost in science right? Well greybane isnt normal we all know that. I was thinking and well, its a probability.
@spike-what are you trying to do, butter up Joe?

Leinahtan on July 29, 2011 at 8:23 pm

Hey Joe you better read this ‘cayse; i bet NOBODY has thought of this.
a text game where you have to type off anm invasion. like a zombie has a letter

Leinahtan on July 29, 2011 at 8:27 pm

So if a zombie has a “G” above his head then you type “G” to kill him, if you type one wring or let too many reach the wall then they speed up.

Leinahtan on July 29, 2011 at 8:28 pm

Heh, when Scrufflebeck barked I seriously jumped!

terrorpeach on July 29, 2011 at 10:49 pm

Scott’s comment .. “What made you Judge .. Jury and Executioner .. Made me think more of Bernie’s new suit and his maturing outlook in life ..

Chris on July 30, 2011 at 1:22 am

It’s official! Cubert won!
