Plants Can Do More Than Salad! 06/23/2011

by Joe

SPOILERS AHEAD! Please watch today’s scene, first! :D

When I thought up of our little brussels sprout friends, I did a little research to see if plants could produce a naturally-occurring chemical that could explode. I happily found out that they could! Apparently, according to Wikipedia and this article, explosions frequently occur during Bushfires in Eucalyptus forests where the volatile oils in the tree tops suddenly combust. Isn’t that awesome? I’ve learned a lot about plants and their “abilities” through a little bit of research and I’m excited to introduce more interesting plant life in later scenes!

Oh, and sorry about the buildings blocking the little plant monsters! I didn’t think that one through, did I? :D

Enjoy Scene 9 – “I Hate Brussels Sprouts”!

Please continue to vote! :D Bug’s sketch is still the incentive! Thank you for voting everyday!

YAY, this means you officialy get a bag of sparkle bunnies and win from me :D
Also that inner voice of Joes just keeps on getting creeper and creeper

Eastar on June 23, 2011 at 4:55 pm

@Ramsheep – Thank you! :D
@Eastar – Haha yes! I was hoping that there were facts that backed-up exploding plants!

Joe on June 23, 2011 at 5:09 pm

this is getting better by the day good work joe

ryan on June 23, 2011 at 5:12 pm

Time for another round of…. DELTA’S WILD MASS GUESSING!!

At some point, in the mindscape, Joe will face off against Other-Joe, and be almost defeated. At a critical juncture, Joe will use his rudimentary Mindcrafting abilities to thwart Other-Joe and emerge from his mind triumphant!

Delta Pangaea on June 23, 2011 at 5:25 pm

I like these series even though im busy making my games i still like to watch pocalypse because theres too much excitement,If you just speed up the process then you’ll have so many episodes in a single day i have two methods which i use to make games
1.)Hire more people to help you make the comics.

Joshua on June 23, 2011 at 6:42 pm

Mh… Possible, Delta, but I rather think that Subconcious-Joe won’t really try to overcome the actual Joe, but just arouse him to the point where he will be released and able to merge with actual Joe, to become… eh… complete. It’s the clever part of his mind, in fact he’s trying to help himself. Well, it’s my guess.

Dairadh on June 23, 2011 at 6:58 pm

Thats the first thing I tought when I saw those.

Maybe a certain Joe has been playing Starcraft 2?

1nsane89 on June 23, 2011 at 9:43 pm

Uh not to be a Starcraft nerd or anything but those exploding plants look an awful lot like banelings. (any Starcraft player knows of their evil-rollie-explodie ways)

Psycosmiley999 on June 23, 2011 at 10:34 pm

I knew brussel sprouts weren’t good for you! And mom tried to get me to eat those things.

Zombie Killer on June 23, 2011 at 11:04 pm

I didn’t mind eating brussel sprouts before, but now you’ve turned them against me by turning them into my worst nightmare, SPIDERS!! I have a deadly fear of them and now possibly brussel sprouts

SpiritOfAdventure on June 24, 2011 at 12:48 am

thats just another reason on a LONG list as to why you should hate brussel sprouts

YoYoDude on June 24, 2011 at 12:56 am

Side note, those little guys looked like a baneling form starcraft 2 :D

Alex on June 24, 2011 at 1:54 am

Yay, my second most anticipated animated short of the day.

Sorry Joe, but meet the medic is being released later today, and that’s just hard to beat!

Aethrys on June 24, 2011 at 2:29 am

took one look at them… then shouted “BANELINGS”… guess i was right :D

rolo123123 on June 24, 2011 at 2:48 am

oooooh, so thats what the creepy bulb things do. cool! and yes, brussle sprouts are gross. there like brains… hmm… maybe thats what vegitarian zombies eat :)

Leviticus on June 24, 2011 at 3:13 am

and yes those brussel sprouts do make a type or sulfiric acid and ps also the reason why kids dont like them and when ur adult u can take it better (the taste) the stuff it makes really taste bad when i was 7 now iam 14 it dousnt taste that bad.

jeftai on June 24, 2011 at 4:29 am

Wow, this scene took a lot longer to load than usual.

Alexander Campbell Heath on June 24, 2011 at 7:03 am

@1nsane89 & Psycosmiley999 & Alex & rolo123123 – Absolutely right! I’m a fan of Starcraft 2 and Banelings were an inspiration! (*Cough* Straight rip-off *Cough* :D )
@jeftai – I like them when they’re sauteed in butter with bacon. But, I guess anything is good when sauteed in butter and bacon :D
@Alexander Campbell Heath – Yeah, this scene is about 1MB! Twice the size of most scenes :D

Joe on June 24, 2011 at 7:03 am

Evil plants!? What would happen if a nice machine monster became joe’s friend or pet. it would be awesome!!!

hein on June 24, 2011 at 9:00 am

What happened to Greybane? Where is he? is there going to be another episode wit him or what?

Leinahtan on June 24, 2011 at 9:22 am

Wow! A full week gone and the comic’s advanced so much!!! Those Explosive-SpiderPods were truly quite interesting too! Awesome that you are using real-life facts for the creation of your “creatures”! I do have to wonder if by the time Joe awakens the roots of that plant will have him and Rosa ensnared like tentacles????? Or else in spiderwebs! lol

Quick question though… Those “eggs” from which those spiderpods hatched… Do they only contain a single “seed” or do they contain several? A normal plant has one “tree” per seed, but insects can produce several tiny eggs covered in slime similar to that “egg” the tree has in it’s roots, arising my question…

NeoWarrior on June 24, 2011 at 10:28 am

im scared worried what will he do a machine will help him right main charecters never die right i hope he lives

niko on June 25, 2011 at 3:52 am

i’m with hein… how about adding another machine character? besides harry here is my two ideas for machine friends
Tobor:a battle robot living near the colony: looks like Obliterator

Destroyer:a cranky but kind robot following bernie. looks like harry. but not quite.

Joe.99 on June 25, 2011 at 4:58 am
