I would prefer Inne-Joe to be nice. Readers are likely to have a preference for the first personnality of a character, because for them, it’s the true one, his real self. Actually, Outer-Joe is the true Joe for us, and Inner-Joe is a fake or something like that. We don’t consider him the “real” Joe. And since he’s such a jackass, the feeling is stronger. Because of that, we have the feeling that Outer-Joe is a poor (and stupide and selfish and pathetic) guy deceived by his other self. And that’s all.

But if Inner-Joe was nicer than Outer-Joe, the reader would have a moral dilemma. Which character should he like ? The “real” one, who’s such an ass, or the “fake” one, who’s better in all area. I think it would be an interesting situation for the reader and the story. Well, I know it’s not the case and it won’t be, the personality of each Joe is already decided, but I wanted to share my impression about the “Joe-Joe” case. ^^
@Leviticus I guess your right. “Nice Joe” isn`t really nice. Original Joe fits better.
