Someone Else Wanna Handle Justice League? | December 1, 2017

by Joe

Watched Justice League recently and, especially after watching Wonder Woman, I expected much better. Batman Vs. Superman and the previous Superman movies weren’t so great, either. Was Wonder Woman a fluke or did it just have a better team and vision behind it?

JL’s Superman is not the Superman I want to see presented to the masses. He came off as a holier-than-thou, don’t-talk-to-me-peasant, unapproachable dick who only cared about Lois and his mother. Isn’t Superman supposed to love humanity and want to save it because he cares for them? Not because he thinks he’s a god who has to protect these worthless ants from destruction. It felt like humans were just wasting his time. SPOILER!! >>>>> There’s a short bit in the beginning where Superman is being interviewed and filmed by two little girls on their smartphone. Superman just looked down at them and it felt like he was annoyed by these pissant children. He was so cold and uncaring. I like the Superman who’s lighthearted, approachable, and is willing to take time out for the little things – like maybe crouching down, joking around around with these kids, and taking a selfie. Oh, and how about the CG removal of Superman’s mustache… that’s another story.

I get that JL was trying to be dark and gritty (I guess?) but it all felt like a mess. Did Flash, Cyborg, and Aquaman even need to be in it? I know that they all had their specific roles but character-wise, they just felt tossed in because… Justice League – gotta have all of ’em. Do these ensemble movies all need to have separate origin/prequel movies to be successful? Would the Avenger movies have worked as well if they didn’t start with the original Iron Man/Cap/Thor/etc. movies? I just think Flash, Cyborg, and Aquaman could have been introduced better – make us care about them more in the movie, not because they showed up in the original comics decades ago. Feels like the producers just rely on people loving the characters because we have to – because they’re part of comic history. But it doesn’t work that way, right? Just because I love comic book/animated Superman doesn’t mean I love your version of Superman.

The DC move universe has a long way to go but I hope they get it right one day. Worked with Spiderman I suppose :D Only 3 remakes!

You know what was a great movie, though? Coco. Go watch Coco instead :D

On another note – holy crap, it’s December.

People in Brazil were saying that the JL movie was great. I still haven’t watched it, but I’m kind of discouraged after knowing superman is depicted as a douchebag hahaha.

And yes, DECEMBER! It feels like I’m stuck in 2015 and time’s just flying.

I recently watched Coco, and I totally agree on it being another good movie by Disney Pixar.
