Well I played Life is Strange just recently, and I highly recommend that if you don’t mind “Point & Click” (or “Walk & Click” in this case)… also Oxenfree if you like that.
Aquaria is not on sale, but It’s a great metroidvania game that I recommend. You’ll probably like the art style.

I have a lot of recommendations in a lot of categories, but if you’re looking for something like Smash Brothers, I would take a look at Rivals Of Aether and Megabyte Punch.

Damn, how could I forget about “The Beginner’s Guide” in my recommendations. It’s a walking simulator, and it’s short (about 1-2 hours, depending on your speed) but I still really recommend it for all “creative people” to try at least once.
It’s not a perfect game or an outright sad game, but it did make me a bit emotional, I won’t lie :) Couldn’t stop thinking about it for days.

Oh, and “To the Moon” is also a good one.

Omikron The Nomad Soul is really cheap at the moment. One of my old faves, Original David Bowie songs made for the game (incl in game performances) and Bowie even appears as a major character in the game. Great story but the gameplay is pretty dated and occasionally buggy (save often).
It was the first game from Quantic Dream who went on to make Fahrenheit, Heavy Rain and Beyond: Two Souls.

Also, if you were a fan of classic Monkey Island type adventures then I highly recommend Deponia: The Complete journey currently 85% off @ US$5.99 (comes with the whole Deponia trilogy). Or Broken Age 80% off @ US$4.99 which is a bit less monkey island but an equally weird and enjoyable point n’ click adventure with an amazing story told from 2 sides.

If you liked X-com you will probably like Xenonauts. Its a spiritual successor to the original x-com game from way back in the day. In my opinion its a lot better than the new x-com games.

To build on what Ordinal Chaos was saying, if you choose to play Xenonauts, you may wish to grab the community edition mod (it you play it on steam, you can actually just select in under under beta versions of the game, which keeps it nicely updated at all times). It does a bunch of bugfixing and rebalancing that is quite nice to have (including improving the AI for both your soldiers and aliens), and includes a bunch of extra map packs so you don’t get half way through the game and start finding the combat is getting repetitious.
