What is Happening? :( | May 14, 2019

Look, I know I’m no Shakespeare. I’ve never considered myself a great writer – didn’t go to school for it, I don’t read much at all – I’m just telling a story that is unfolding in my head using a medium of art that I create for a living. I get a lot of help from all of you. All your feedback, all your theories, all your ideas – we pretty much write The Pocalypse together. I am not a professional writer and The Pocalypse is not a “professional” story. You know what is, though? The eight season of Game of Thrones. What is going on? Is one of the greatest shows of all time really ending like this?

I’m sure by now you’ve seen and read all the criticism around the internet about this final season. I’m not gonna write everything here in my own words because I pretty much agree with everything that’s been said. Unsatisfying character arc endings, rushed events and actions, plot armour thicker than tank plating, the list goes on. I just wanna sit back and contemplate out loud about the end of my favourite show.

I watched the last episode (The Bells) criticizing in real-time. All the nonsensical moments that I couldn’t ignore, as hard as I tried to. I tried to shut my brain off and just enjoy the awesome visuals and view key events without thinking back to past seasons and the stories that led up to them. But that just sucked the fun out of watching. I wanted character arcs to be closed with justice to their characters. In past seasons, all the characters were fleshed out beautifully and it really did break my heart when a well-built character died. I felt like I knew each character almost personally. Now, (most) character deaths feel so rushed and I’m left not feeling anything but disappointment.

I hope the books end more fittingly. Get on it, Mr. Martin :D

Yeah, I feel your pain man. Feels like the writers of the show are just trying to painlessly end it so the fans can’t complain about it. I bet Martin is watching those episodes and going like “lol wtf man”.

Don’t feel bad for it, though. It’s television after all, right? Big media companies were always disappointing when dealing with good stories and I’d guess that happens because there is no proximity to the fans. It sucks, but I’m sure the books will make the wait worth your while.

As for the scene, definitely worth the wait! THE PLOT THICKENS ONCE AGAIN.

Sad for what happened to Mia, though :(

You’ve been writing a story that we’ve been loving from the start, and we just keep coming for more. If it counts for anything, the Pocalypse has been my favorite webcomic, and I always recommend it to others when they ask for some new ready material.

The computer game Neverwinter Nights 2 kind of did the same thing. I can only assume they spent so much money and development time on the middle part of the game where you get to manage your own castle and try to reinforce it and bolster your forces for the inevitable tide of undead that is approaching, that they ran out of both at the end. I assume this because the epic battle at the end of the castle siege that finally routs the undead horde is a glorified PowerPoint slideshow, the final dungeon is a convoluted trawl through tough enemy after tough enemy with little variation, and a final PowerPoint presentation at the end shows you the ending of “Rocks Fall, Everybody Dies”. The expansion pack goes some way to redeem it.

Watched the scene again and I’m so pumped up for what the story will become from now on! I missed Andrius and his crazy plans.
