BlockHopper Needs You! 09/03/2011

by Joe

Green Pixel’s BlockHopper beta is out and you can play it right here: http://www.greenpixel.ca/BHopper.html! :D

We’re going to need your help on this game! We learned with The Pocalypse Defense that twelve or so pieces of feedback (before releasing to the big flash portals), while helpful, was just not enough. So, we’ve decided to get as much people as we can to play it and report any feedback/bugs/suggestions. If you have the time and you want to help make BlockHopper as awesome as possible (before we submit it to the big flash portals and before we release an iOS version) we would greatly appreciate you playing the game and reporting anything useful to this area in the forums: http://forums.thepocalypse.com/viewforum.php?f=30 :D

We still have a list of stuff to do to complete the game, such as more levels, finishing up text, etc. We’ll update as we go along!

Also! We’re going to need levels from you! :D BlockHopper has a built-in level editor, so that you can create and submit your own levels! You’ll have to register a GreenPixel account or just use your forums username and password! So, if you’re already a member of the The Pocalypse forums, you’re good to go! When you make a level that you’re really proud of, let us know in the forums and our favourite levels will make it into the iOS game! Players will be able to rate your level, too, so be creative :D

If you have any questions regarding the game, please post them in the forums, or e-mail dev@greenpixel.ca. Thank you!

Oh, and a huge thank you goes out the Starship Amazing, who let us use their awesome music!

We look forward to hearing your feedback and completing our second game!

Enjoy Scene 10 – “Leaving”! (Sound is required!)

Please continue to vote and get yourself a Cubert wallpaper! :D Thank you for voting everyday!

You can follow The Pocalypse on Facebook, Twitter and RSS, too!

Give Scrufflebeck a good home by buying a Scrufflebeck keychain! They’re now available for CDN$10 in the store :D Thanks for your support!

Have a great weekend!

Whoa that doesn’t look good. Things keep getting worse for the colony…

Also, Author Joe, mind letting Joe’s dead heartbeat sound not loop after the end? It was kind of annoying. Thanks.

Nick on September 3, 2011 at 10:53 am

nooo joes dead

red ja on September 3, 2011 at 10:57 am

@Nick – Oops, forgot to stop it! Thanks, fixed! :D

Joe on September 3, 2011 at 11:00 am

The doctor just stole an experimental weapon powerful enough to disable the machines, broke into the armory to steal more guns, and joe is on the edge of death…whats next, bernie jaywalking!?

Ironpenguin on September 3, 2011 at 11:01 am

@Ironpenguin – Haha! That made me lol :D

Joe on September 3, 2011 at 11:03 am

Joe cant die. He is the main character. You cant kill a main character. That would be….. wrong.

Zombie Killer on September 3, 2011 at 11:07 am

ugh joes dead that’s not good

Zerotech68 on September 3, 2011 at 11:09 am

that doctor has only snapped, it’ll only take a major life threatening experience to slap him out of it….no worries folks, we’ll have our good doctor back in no time at all! (ifheisn’tinmachinefulebeforethenthatis)

Kilroy on September 3, 2011 at 11:15 am

dude, you don’t drink vaccines! haven’t you ever been vaccinated?

tempest on September 3, 2011 at 11:17 am

@tempest – Actually, (and I learned this recently from my son’s vaccination doctor) some vaccines, such as the polio vaccine, are taken orally :D In Japan, the polio vaccine is taken orally, but they’re switching to a needle soon, I hear.

Joe on September 3, 2011 at 11:23 am

The game is major hard. i think you sould be able to use WSAD to move him and need to make him jump higher. also, the timeing on the blocks that turn into platforms needs to be expanded because the one level is just major hard. i couldnt even make the jumps.

paul on September 3, 2011 at 11:25 am

@Joe BlackHopper is great except you need to make wider jumping cause most of the times I jump and fall >_>
Now Some TP Shit:

Edward on September 3, 2011 at 11:27 am

@Joe Okay Orally Just sounds wrong.

Edward on September 3, 2011 at 11:28 am

Great, now there’s more conspiracy theories for the anti-vaccers!

LegendaryAsshole on September 3, 2011 at 11:37 am

SCRUFFLEBECK YOU TRAITOR! Stop following Herp Derpington. just let the stupid bastard die. That was one bloody last flatline (Which wouldnt happen in real life)

bobsickle on September 3, 2011 at 11:38 am

Matthew on September 3, 2011 at 12:37 pm

The game is really cool but it gets hard way too quick. I think the difficult needs to build up more gradually so the player can get used to the physics. level 7 is one of the hardest levels in a platform game that I can think of. I think here the coloured switches should stay on longer. Its quite hard to coordinate the jumping and moving with one hand but I suppose its necessary because you need the other hand for placing the blocks. Level 8 is very hard aswell becuase you have to place the blocks while moving and jumping. It might be better if you could move the cursor and place the blocks anywhere in the level so you could first set up the blocks and then attempt to jump across.

sean on September 3, 2011 at 12:46 pm

Annika has healing powers? PLEASE??? then joe goes and saves Graybane and Scrufflebeck, with Rosa, Jess, and Bernie’s help. And Herp Derpington follows along.

Leviticus on September 3, 2011 at 12:55 pm

Lol the doctor is indeed comical i didnt know he was such a mastermind to plan such thefts :D Thank you and come again

Dagzter on September 3, 2011 at 5:36 pm

Joe… dead…. I just heard that beeeeeeeeeeep sound for the heart thing

Shade person on September 3, 2011 at 5:55 pm

Coooool ! Loved this scene ! Ok, there was a lot about this damn doctor, I really don’t like this character and I hope he’ll disapear soon (maybe used by machines to be a spy with a microphone in his belly ? hahaha), but the end of the chapter is very cool. :D Pretty strong emotionnaly. Well done Author-Joe. :)

Dairadh on September 3, 2011 at 6:33 pm

I think the Elder will revive him, because Joe didn’t complete the contract

Anonymous on September 3, 2011 at 7:02 pm

@Dairadh: I kind of like the doctor, I can’t not imagine him being Dr. Wilson from “House”, and seeing him snap like this is just hillarious because of that.

DramaNoMore on September 3, 2011 at 7:08 pm

damn,joe is DEAD
The Worst Scene Here In The POCALYPSE

Mini on September 3, 2011 at 11:00 pm

OMG!! JOE?!!!! >:((

ejay247 on September 3, 2011 at 11:11 pm

[Warning: Comment from a World of Warcraft fan approaching!]

Joe isn’t dead ( that would be a suicide for the comic. ),though I will soon if you use these damned cliffhangers. Probably, the Elder will save him from death,as Joe didn’t fulfill his promise.

Happy Vampire on September 4, 2011 at 1:11 am

Oh btw. @bobsicle
Don’t worry,I’m sure Scrufflebeck will stab & kill Dr. Roth ^_^

Happy Vampire on September 4, 2011 at 1:14 am

scrufflebeck is the tf2 spy of Pocalypse.

ken2666 on September 4, 2011 at 1:31 am

Joe won’t die, but scrufflebeck…

Blues on September 4, 2011 at 1:55 am

Joshua Owen Heath on September 4, 2011 at 3:26 am

found a typo…when Dr.Roth visited the guards and asked why they were snickering and said that his pajamas looked funny, it read “pyjamas”

Jordan on September 4, 2011 at 3:49 am

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA lvl 7 aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa im aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa possible AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAKHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Gray on September 4, 2011 at 4:10 am

jeo nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

tyler on September 4, 2011 at 4:30 am

Finally. One less selfish person on this planet. Good choice, Author Joe.

Sam on September 4, 2011 at 5:04 am

The Game sort of reminds me of JumpBoy, a game I had on my cellphone… You could use some breakable blocks, and some enemies too though… Make it more “Mario&Luigi” than “JumpBoy”… Perhaps “spacebar” lasers? Maybe some swinging ropes to glide from one side to another? Things of the sort… Other than this, the game seems to have quite an appeal! Oh! When the character jumps, the change between Jumping and Falling seems a bit too drastic… Perhaps a .5 second suspension between Jumping and Falling would make it more realistic?

NeoWarrior on September 4, 2011 at 5:27 am

Oh, that is one NASTY cliff-hanger!

MaveriKat on September 4, 2011 at 5:29 am

That’s how you spell pyjamas

Snerky on September 4, 2011 at 8:09 am

Wait, that was a rubbish first comment to make on this page, I meant
Ohhhh hell no, Innerjoe better stop being a tool and bring them both back. Not overly worried about Doc Roth going out though, he’s a bit of an ass for taking the machine weapon but hopefully some suitable end will be along for him shortly

Snerky on September 4, 2011 at 8:12 am

HOW IS JOE DEAD! *goes after the author* okay where are ya hiding I wanna have a few words with ya!

sykes on September 4, 2011 at 8:59 am

I think BlockHopper is good so far. The jumping could be improved, but either way, it’s great! I’ll be thinking up a level later. Oh and great comic! :D I can’t wait for the next part. :)

Sweet_Ride on September 4, 2011 at 11:37 am

That can’t be good…

Nick on September 4, 2011 at 2:34 pm

Joe can’t die! He’s the best character in the series! Not that weird Doctor Rambo.

Biperfuture on September 4, 2011 at 5:59 pm

I’m sorry but if there is no other plot twist in the next few ones, as to him coming back to life, this was a terribly obvious cliff hanger. I hope the story develops in a less mainstream way. I’m not calling it mainstream or assuming it will develop terrible though. I really like the way this is going but if he just comes back to life within 30 seconds it’s kind of overplayed and boring.

Casey on September 5, 2011 at 1:46 am

Meh, he’s not dead. Or if he is, he won’t stay like that for too long.

Belexar on September 5, 2011 at 9:36 am

Epic game player XD but still edward -__. on September 5, 2011 at 10:57 am

It would be interesting if Joe remained dead for some scenes. =) Other character would be affected.

Dairadh on September 5, 2011 at 4:41 pm

OH FUCK OH FUCK on September 5, 2011 at 6:32 pm

Inner Joe has healing in his power-set. He won’t let the body truly die. However, outer Joe may still die. The one with the powers will save the body before cerebral decay causes that fragment of Joe’s psyche to die, so we’ll see the part of his mind that’s a total ass (as if Joe isn’t bad enough as is) will have control without something attacking his defenses at all time.
All in all, this’ll get interesting. Doc boy is dead meat, and the superweapon is gone, meaning one of the main protagonists isn’t neutered, and taken out of the equation as a serious threat until the colony is annihilated due to a vampire invasion, in which case a lot of technology will be lost until the next colony is found. Anyone see any flaws in my analysis?

Some Guy on September 6, 2011 at 9:40 am

the Tevino Dalvak Story is Truly coming for the sixth chapter, about bernard senior
