Hakuna Matata :D 09/02/2012

by Joe

I went to African Lion Safari today for a family trip and I’m exhausted :D

The park is a game reserve that lets people drive into it on a set path. So we would see baboons climbing on people’s cars and elk walking alongside cars, curiously peering at the gawking humans inside. It was especially neat to see lions and rhinos doing their thing (sleeping, mostly) relatively close to cars with no barrier in between. I would imagine that a lion, let alone a rhinoceros, could rip into a car pretty easily but it amazed me how docile, timid, and pretty much apathetic the animals were to us. Relaxed, not concerned about food or safety (the staff even noted that when we saw a giraffe lying down – something that is never seen in the wild). “Hakuna matata” I thought and wished I was a lion :D

I’m sure there are parks like this (no cages, unlike zoos) all over the world and if you have a reputable one near you, I recommend you make a trip out of it! :D

Enjoy Scene 29 – “Helpless”!

Back to school! :D Who can you find in this Hammerston school lot? Vote to see! Please vote for The Pocalypse here everyday! I’m going to try coming up with a new incentive every update (or every few updates) :D Thank you for voting!

Derp on September 2, 2012 at 1:48 am

I do have one near me. It’s African Lion Safari! I went there when I was little. I thought it was nifty, of course, but it had kind of built up into this thing in my mind where the lions hunted prey and didn’t just, you know, sleep.

Guvnorium on September 2, 2012 at 1:56 am

OMFG!!!!! i dont like the suspense you enduce upon us Joe lol and all the different twists thrown in to the mix as well lol. i definatley did not see scrufflebeck coming in and saving their asses.

Laserhead on September 2, 2012 at 1:58 am

Scruffleback? Scruffleback?! didnt see that coming……

Jades on September 2, 2012 at 2:15 am

Halfway between Camp Verde and Cottonwood in Arizona, USA is a park exactly like that called “Out of Africa”!

Brandon on September 2, 2012 at 2:36 am

Nice comic, as usual, but just one problem…

It’s too short.

Please go back to longer comics, especially with the four + day wait in between…

But, again, even with the briefness, awesome comic.

pmattheus on September 2, 2012 at 2:39 am

I love how the grass just grew right on top of the missile XD

BloodWolf7 on September 2, 2012 at 3:14 am

Scrufflebeck always save the day XD

biperfuture on September 2, 2012 at 4:07 am

I am up way to late for this, the comic was kind of short, (Although I sympathize with all the work you’re doing + taking care of your family,) Scrufflebeck is just plain awesome as usual, and I’m way to tired and I’m probably going to regret typing this when the sun rises.

Extraintelligence on September 2, 2012 at 4:54 am

So THAT’s what the Elder meant by “the plants push back the machines”.

That metal rusting sound effect was awesome!

Nick on September 2, 2012 at 5:32 am

scruffle-f**kin-back… one legendary pet right there.

snorri on September 2, 2012 at 5:37 am

Scrufflebeck the most badass character in the whole damn series

Lupus Amens on September 2, 2012 at 6:41 am

Gotta say, Scrufflebeck is one bad-ass pet. Protective, smart, loyal and caring. Someone that needs a nice big hug, a big bowl of water and good food (or nutrients?) and all the affection Joe and the rest of the gang can give.

Though figure the rest of the plants aren’t exactly fans of humans, figure Scrufflebeck’s example is one rare sign of hope.

Winterfeline on September 2, 2012 at 8:13 am

Scrufflebeck… WHAT CAN’T HE DO?!?!

DramaNoMore on September 2, 2012 at 9:23 am

PLANT MONSTERS FTW!

Vyrien on September 2, 2012 at 9:28 am

0.o………….plant puppies got friends hehe

scavenger on September 2, 2012 at 10:40 am

uummm wait what just happened did scrufflebeck make a friend and stop an over powered missle from blowing up???? CAN ANYTHING STOP THIS ADORABLE PLANT PUP????????????????

Shalidar13 on September 2, 2012 at 11:28 am

That was.. a bit anti-climactic. I was sort of expecting something much more major, what with that stellar cliff-hanger last episode (Good job, by the way). Like maybe Bernie failing to stop it, and then the colony exploding. I mean, all that hype over that missile, only to have the threat disappear within seconds of it making itself known. And it was stopped by an MIA character, too. Seems kinda deus ex machina.

Also: Sorry to be “That guy,” but this was kind of a let down, if you know what I mean. I still think you are a great story teller/isometric artist. Keep up the good work!

Cap'n anon on September 2, 2012 at 12:14 pm

Is there ever a time when scrufflebeck doesn’t save the day? The answer is no. Scrufflebeck is the greatest thing since sliced bread!!! Great scene today, Author Joe!!

NarniaNerd on September 2, 2012 at 1:23 pm

……. I did NOT see that coming.

Spencett on September 2, 2012 at 1:40 pm

I’m really happy Scruffleback is back again, but this scen was tooooooooooooooooooo small!!! :’(

Gilby on September 2, 2012 at 1:45 pm

You guys didn’t see that coming, because… they where buried under the ground!!!
Lololololololol… okay, I stop now.

Otter on September 2, 2012 at 2:01 pm

I don’t like potted plants, but I still want a scrufflebeck.

robert on September 2, 2012 at 2:52 pm

hayul yeah!

Brenkie on September 2, 2012 at 3:19 pm

Who was in danger that bernie trid to save?

Edward on September 2, 2012 at 5:23 pm

Edward the missile was heading straight at the colony. Based on the machines power i’m pretty sure New Hammerston would have been blown out of existence if Scrufflebeck and his plant buddie didn’t badass that missile.

Zombie Killer on September 2, 2012 at 11:24 pm

African Lion Safari is a fun place. Best part, if you get the time, they have a campground right next to the park, and as soon as the sun rises in the morning you can hear all the animals waking too. I can only imagine its what a particularly dense African wilderness would sound like in the morning =D

Ilykithere on September 3, 2012 at 12:43 am

We must name the new-comer! I nominate “Scruffel Buddy” until a more permanent name is established!

CamelCase on September 3, 2012 at 1:12 am

badass scrufflebeck !

Jon on September 3, 2012 at 3:12 am

Joe went to a Safari Park? Hey, I went on one two. Blair Drummond. Well no monkeys leapt on my dad’s car. It was cracking anyways.

ZidaneRobbie on September 3, 2012 at 4:44 am

Scrufflebeck is so cool the dog came out from nothing

Albert on September 3, 2012 at 4:45 am

SHORT BUT SWEET MAN!!! PLANT MONSTER FOR THE WIN!!

ColdPop on September 3, 2012 at 7:17 am

Geez, Dominik and the Medic guy weren’t kidding. Those plants are Boss! Honestly, the world is divided between the plants and machines. Everything else is just trying to survive in it, including the Vampires. The Mutants seem like the only ones who may adapt to a Plant world. The machines are going to need to do some drastic sterilization if they wanna win.

Raziel Star on September 3, 2012 at 7:41 am

WOW! Awesome

Mitchell on September 3, 2012 at 9:05 am

Is it a bird, is it a plane, no its Scrufflebeck

Some Guy on September 3, 2012 at 1:27 pm

hello i am scrufflebeck. pet me and live.

aqua on September 3, 2012 at 5:33 pm

well, i dont really h8 this comic, but this episode was extremely short. ik that your busy, but try to spend maybe another day and make it a few minutes longer.

h8r on September 3, 2012 at 5:38 pm

SCRUFFLEBECK!!!! YOUR BACK!!!!! Everything’s gonna be all right now :)

Artimis456 on September 3, 2012 at 7:12 pm

Scrufflebeck is a major powerhouse!
Bernie has super speed
Doc has a grenade launcher
Rosa has control over matter
But ONLY Scrufflebeck can unite plants and humans against the machines!

NeoWarrior on September 3, 2012 at 9:10 pm

This episode was stuck on loading screen for some reason for me, i had to right click it and ‘force play’ to see it. did anyone else had that problem?

Ya neck on September 4, 2012 at 12:48 am

I kinda wonder if the plants don’t have their own motive for helping; we’ve seen them be less than friendly before, so perhaps its more a matter of the machines threatening their turf than it is them just happening to be gracious benefactors here.

Scott on September 4, 2012 at 9:26 am

Hakuna Matata is lion for “Cheer up, emo-kid!”

APStorm on September 4, 2012 at 12:54 pm

OMG scruflebeck returning from the ashes stoping afucking missile getting a pant bomb on his side damaging badly cross and almost killing the elder he isnt apuppy he is GAWD

Tom on September 4, 2012 at 10:03 pm

That was INCREDIBLY short. I think that was the shortest episode yet. Great sound effects on the creaking metal part! On another note, I KNEW Bernie was going to start yelling “NO!” when the thruster shut off, I’m surprised the missile didn’t explode when it was struck if that’s how missiles explode in the first place as far as I know (it hits something hard and explodes), and what the heck is that thing that’s following Scrufflebeck? I get the feeling tables are about to turn…

illeatyourself on September 5, 2012 at 4:11 pm

Am I seriously the only one thinking BANELINGS OH GOD AAAAAAAA? Shit is getting real here, and I am EXCITED!
