All Your Units! :D 03/27/2012

by Joe

Feels like I haven’t posted in while and, for that, I’m sorry! I’m giving TPD2 extra attention because we have special plans for it in the near future! The sooner I get a lot of the art done, the sooner we can get the ball rolling! :D

I finished the friendly units that will appear in the game and I’m very glad to finally show all of them to you, above! Hover over a unit for more info and click on the GRID button to toggle the grid on/off! :D

Let me know what you think about the units and how they look! And, keep the suggestions and ideas coming! I greatly appreciate them! Feel free to join the brainstorming and discussion in this forum thread! :D

Enjoy Flash Showcase 01 – “The Pocalypse Defense 2 Units, Part 2”!

The Pocalypse will continue soon! Thank you for bearing with me!

this is kinda confusing all the class trees and everything. love it and all. but had to map out the tree in my head. could you upload some sorta image that makes it clearer joe? =D

Ryushi on March 27, 2012 at 3:44 am

you should make the game as a part of the story something like the machine attack that will come to newhammerstone and sorry for my bad english

Roger on March 27, 2012 at 4:08 am

to criticise your concept; the hacker is a bit unrealistic in the backround is a giant tank and nobody uses it and the green place on the right top is a bit emty but all in all i cant wait for the day you will relese it

Roger on March 27, 2012 at 4:23 am

units can shot only like in plants vs zombies or to all sides ?

Kalas on March 27, 2012 at 4:59 am

I love all of them!!! :D I can’t wait!

zach on March 27, 2012 at 5:06 am

you should have put greybane in it or maybe have a boss like joes other half, andrius or elder dom

kingjd on March 27, 2012 at 5:54 am

i also recomond puting the mofunzone as a sponsor since i played tpd1 and that was how i found your comic

kingjd on March 27, 2012 at 6:03 am

This looks amazing. I really hope you put boss fights into this one. Cross, Dominik, and/or Andrius would all make really good boss fights.

Jermell on March 27, 2012 at 7:06 am

@roger chances are the tank isn’t being used because they probably don’t have the fuel or ammo for it.
i think the yellow building in the bottom left looks like unused space on here but, i’m probably just being ocd or something though. i don’t think it would be useful for the snipers but in my opinion the hackers and salvagers would probably use it as a safe area to work from. though you probably have enough grid space currently heh.

nightarix on March 27, 2012 at 9:50 am

Will there be a night version too? (hintity hint)

EnterTheNameHere on March 27, 2012 at 11:13 am

Really cool.I agree with Jermell.BRING ON THE BOSS FIGHTS!

? on March 27, 2012 at 12:00 pm

Looks like the games gonna be fun!

Jades on March 27, 2012 at 1:11 pm

i think the super salvegar 3000 should be callled THE SCRAPINATOR

mouseman on March 27, 2012 at 2:58 pm

Maybe you can have something like an special abilities section where you can activate the tank for an artillery barrage or Joe Madness ability.

;_; on March 27, 2012 at 5:55 pm

its so awsome!!!

raikue on March 27, 2012 at 7:14 pm

mouseman- Scrapinator? are you doc. Doofinshmerg?

Joe- Awesome new units, especially the hacker and drones! I wonder how they managed to crack the security measures against hackers in machines…?

NeoWarrior on March 27, 2012 at 7:33 pm

very nice. i can only assume that a story will be able to explain how the colony got their hands on such advanced machinery correct?
… heh, all your units are belong to us… i couldnt resist :P

d-man on March 27, 2012 at 10:41 pm

btw, any luck on blockhopper’s flash? i wanna play, but i cant pay…

d-man on March 27, 2012 at 10:44 pm

If this will be free you should submit it to Armorgames. Every new game gets on the frontpage and the really popular ones stay there for quite a long time in the side bar. 100000+ people play the games on average and you can also promote the comic. Imagine if only 1 out of 100 check it out, you would still get a thousand extra viewers. Just a tip.

Dave on March 28, 2012 at 4:09 am

it is going to be free isn’t it?

Not going to say on March 28, 2012 at 4:24 am

Gotta say, this all looks pretty snazzy. I can’t say that I’m too fond of the idea of drones being involved in defending the colony though. If machines were to attack it, then wouldn’t they be able to take over those drones…?

BloodWolf7 on March 28, 2012 at 4:39 am

Very nice, I must say the spaces on top of the buildings add a fantastic new layer of strategy to the Tower Defense idea.

Will we be allowed only 1 of the Hero Units, or can we use several?
*really wants to set something up where the enemies get funneled through Joe and Jess with Bernie and Doc covering them*

SliceAndDice on March 28, 2012 at 9:05 am

The drones would be running on a seperate network that doc created to be unhackable, obvioulsy

Not going to say on March 28, 2012 at 11:38 am

man i cant wait for the game

Dranlord on March 28, 2012 at 11:41 am

hmmmm i just was reading and will be cool if the game come out at the same time as the robots atack the city

Dranlord on March 28, 2012 at 11:45 am

For the abilities it would be fun if you had easter eggs not related to Pocalypse like a Skyrim joke or something.

;_; on March 28, 2012 at 4:50 pm

So,is Andrius a boss?LIEK A BAWS

Edward on March 29, 2012 at 4:59 am

Cool! Joe! keep it going :D

Zel on March 29, 2012 at 9:56 pm

My only problem with the hacker (Other than the silly premise) is that it’s a very conditional weapon. It ONLY works on machine scouts. A single unit type. In that space you could have put a unit equally capable of battling machines but can also attack zombies and plant monsters etc.

bobsickle on March 30, 2012 at 1:01 am

And where’s the fun in that? Making units that can hit everything and do plenty of damage? I’m pretty sure Joe stated that having units that you can just place everywhere and win every level easily is the kind of scenario he wanted to avoid.

Willy on March 30, 2012 at 3:03 am

@Willy That’s not what I am talking about at all. What I was saying is that the hacker can only physically attack machine scout units. Making it completely useless in any other situation. I wasn’t talking about some Deus ex Machina unit that can juggle chainsaws while simultaneously preventing any more cliffhangers, I am just talking about using a unit such as the soldier. When upgraded it will be just as effective against machines(Perhaps less) but can actually attack the other unit types as opposed to the hackers machine only attack (which going by the description only effects one particular unit in the machine army, may just be me looking too far into it) It just seems like a rock paper scissors style unit which seem to plague many strategy games. I have no quarrels with the rest of the units, the Hoplite looks kick ass.

bobsickle on March 30, 2012 at 6:21 am

How much longer do you think until it’s available?

r2d2go on March 30, 2012 at 8:47 am

Aww.. Just went through all of what you had up and just love this comic. Was hoping there’d be more, but hey, I’m willing to wait for more of this greatness. :D

Bill on March 30, 2012 at 9:57 am

@bobsickle – The unit descriptions are pretty vague, so I’ll explain the Hacker a bit more. Basically, it’s a support unit that may turn the tide of a machine-heavy battle, partly based on chance. When a Machine Scout is successfully “hacked”, it turns around and begins attacking enemies on the same line (until it’s destroyed or walks off-screen). So, potentially, if you’re lucky, the Hacker could be attacking every line on a battlefield with its Machine Scout slaves. The downside is if no Machine Scouts enter the battlefield, the Hacker is useless. Of course, units’ skills and abilities are likely to change during development, and the Hacker is a very special unit that will require extra tweaking and balancing :D Maybe even give it a Militia pistol, we’ll see! Thanks for your opinion! :D
@r2d2go – Not for a while! I still have a lot of art to do and Rich (our programmer) is wrapping up BlockHopper work. Let’s say “a few months” :D
@Bill – Thanks for reading and waiting! :D

Joe on March 30, 2012 at 10:41 am

@above New scene.Where is it.

Edward on March 30, 2012 at 12:46 pm

I swear I’ll place a sniper on every damn roof.

I must admit, this is the longest hiatus void of true-scenes (meaning non-fillers) since the comics began. It was bound to happen eventually…

NeoWarrior on March 30, 2012 at 11:50 pm

This is awsome im sure im going to be addicted to this game realy cool!
