Pleasant Surprise :D | November 18, 2019

by Joe

When Disney+ was announced along with future exclusive titles, most notably the Marvel spin-off shows, and a vault of Disney classics, I knew I was gonna get it, despite having Netflix, Prime, and, um, “experience” with swash-buckling torrential waters. So, I signed up the day it was released and forced my kids to watch the OG Lion King, Aladdin, etc. (They enjoyed them, by the way haha)

I didn’t realize, though, that The Simpsons entire catalogue was also on the streaming service. I’ve been watching the good ol’ seasons in the background as I work – the familiar episodes and lines long-embedded in my mind – and they’re bring me nostalgic comfort. Almost like those LoFi study music channels :D

The biggest surprise to me is The Mandalorian. I had no interest in any non-theatre release of Star Wars before I curiously clicked on The Mandalorian’s first episode. I’m hooked. It definitely feels more like the original Star Wars than the newest Episodes. I didn’t even know I wanted that. I thought the newest Episodes were pretty good. Hell, I even like the prequels. But, now I better understand all the complaints that the original trilogy fans voice so bitterly. Even though it of course shares the timeline and events of the movies that surround it, it doesn’t feel like it relies on old characters and story elements. I don’t think any expectation subverting is going to happen and that’s pretty refreshing these days haha (unless it turns out that the Mandalorian is actually Luke Skywalker’s unknown cousin’s force projection).

With the Disney classics, exclusive content on all platforms, and Seinfeld coming to Netflix, I think I’ll be good with streaming services for a while (I hope… Breaking Bad better never leave Netflix).

Now I can sit back and wait for the Disney-shilling cheque to come in :D

In other news, I started a subreddit to replace the forums – check it out! I’ve been thinking about it for while since I’ve always neglected the forums due to just not visiting it regularly. Reddit, on the other hand, I’m on pretty much on-and-off all day :D It’s still pretty brand new and I did all the styling myself so please let me know if I missed any styles/elements. I’ll be thinking about moderators and stuff in time and I’m also considering a Discord!

Ahh, yesss. The familiar feeling of plot twists and cliffhangers.

Sadly, my professors have been catching on to this narrative style too :’)

Oh Adrian, your unchecked high emotions will lead to your destruction. Thanks Joe, even though I’ve experienced this scenario countless times in countless other stories, it still amuses me that people do act in this way.
