Welcome to The Pocalypse! | October 10, 2010

by Joe

Hello! My name is Joe and I would like to welcome you to The Pocalypse! This is my first attempt at webcomic-ing and blogging, so I’m looking forward to learning from and speaking with all of you awesome people :D

The Pocalypse is a flash webcomic about do-it-yourself superheroes who are trying to cope with post-apocalyptic life. Except it’s not not just apocalypse, it’s The Pocalypse!

A little about myself:

I’m a Canadian-Filipino, born in Spain and living in Japan. I’ve been happily married for a year and we have a little Joe or Joe-ette on the way (no, I will not name my child either of those). I also have a cat somewhere in my tiny Japanese apartment (probably under the bed).

I’ve been working in the game industry as a production artist for the last two years and I’ve been loving every minute of it!

I started The Pocalypse simply because I have a story to tell. Writing stories was my favourite thing to do as a kid and, unfortunately, as time went by and the weight of the adult world crushed my soul, I slowly lost the time and imagination needed to be a story-teller (a single salty tear, infused with sadness, runs down my cheek as I type that).

I went into Engineering as I entered the post-secondary world and hated it. Looking back, I know that I only made that potential career-choice to please others who were convinced that taking the “safe and comfortable” route was the way to live your life.

“Fuck it.” I said. I dropped out of college, got a job at my local donut shop (Tim Hortons for you Canadians) and started chasing my dream of becoming an artist. I took an art fundamentals course and began to learn how to draw. I was on my way.

Four years later, with a Game Design diploma on my resume, I started working in the game industry as a pixel artist.

And here I am now! Ready to start telling a story about not just apocalypse, but The Pocalypse! I’m sure we’ll get to know each other more and more as the comic/blog posts/forum discussions progress. Exciting!

Enjoy the very first scene – “It Begins”!

Nice to meet you and so far I quite enjoyed the first episode. I look forward to watching the next two in a few moments but thought I’d make a statement on your blog above. I fully agree with the screw what others want of you and do what you dream for. I wish I had done that when I was younger instead of dropping outa school just cause of some bullies. Totally true! When one’s ideals are lost, all one has to show for him/herself is nothing!

Be true to yourself first, then to others! The cycle must be as such…

I already have some questions:

Who is this guy?
How did the zombie not do any damage to him?
Where did his powers come from?

I’ll keep watching, looks great already!

We have Tim Horton’s in the northern US too. It is made of win and donuts, as is this comic. Just replace “donuts” with “zombies.” So far, so good.

That’s about all I have to say about it so far. :P Looking forward to more, though.
